Biography:  

Kathleen Beauchamp (pen name Katherine Mansfield) is regarded as a pioneer of the modern short story. She began as a talented cellist but turned to writing professionally around the age of 19. Her work is remarkable for its disregard of plot and resolution, focusing instead on internal questions of identity and desire. After battling tuberculosis for several years, she died at the age of 34.
